Baltimore meeting - Agenda and papers
Hi folks - attached, when you open this online (click on Please review and comment here above) are the detailed papers for the Baltimore meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. Some notes:
1. If you can review before the meeting that would be excellent.
2. If there are questions and comments please share them through here - this will help the meeting process this week.
3. There is one paper still to come from the "name" group - hopefully this afternoon when some of the final issues have been ironed out.
4. Within the papers there are sections in italics. We have extracted the relevant documentation from the consultations document, New York meeting report, etc and placed that information within the relevant paper for the Baltimore meeting. The intent is to give you the background info without having to scramble back through all of the other threads and papers.
5. Any typos, syntax, grammar or numbering errors are simply there becuase of the intentional Persian and Turkish carpet test! Ha!
Thanks - look forward to seein everyone in Baltimore on Wednesdaay 29th at 10 am!
Best wishes - Warren

Ok - so Friday morning after the Alliance meeting ended Thursday with the name discussion, Sue, Rafael, Adelaida and myself came out of our hotel and there right on the corner was a white van with a sign. Please see attached. Ha - of course nothing to do with us and our future decisions. It was just a huge and very funny coincidence! Enjoy. Best - Warren

Agenda - The 2 Baltimore follow u conference calls
Hi to everyone. You should have received notification of the two follow up conference calls to complete the Baltimore meeting process:
Friday December 8th - 10am -11-30am EST
Tuesday December 12th - 10am -11-30am EST
The agenda is quite simple. Please see attached. We need to work our way through the
"Priority - Infrastructure of the Alliance – 12 month plan" items in the agenda attached - numbers 1 to 7. Of course these relate to the paper shared beffore the Baltimore meeting. Please let me know if you need another copy.
Can we please suggest that you review the proposals in those sections of the paper and submit any reactions, comments or questions through the comments section related to this post. That will greatly help to expedite the business on Friday and Tuesday.
With many thanks - more soon - Warren
Inaugural Alliance - Decision-making grid for the 25
Initial Orgs for the Alliance?
Hi folks - in Baltimore we commenced work towards agreement concerning the initial 25 organisations that will be invited to inaugurate the first iteration of the Alliance.
As the basis for this process we agreed some criteria including:
1. No more than 25 orgs at the beginning in order to ensure the process is manageable.
2. 50% of the organisations (12 or 13 I assume!) should be genuinely Southern developed and managed organisations.
3. A significant number of the networks and partnerships that exist for some of the sub-sectors in this field (for example ISMA, IUHPE, AMARC, CDAC Net) should be involved.
4. Good balance across the different sub-sectors in this field.
5. Good regional balance.
6. Good balance across development issues.
Following the round-robins and homework to identify the possible list of organisations it was agreed that I would take the lists developed and try to get them into a form that allowed us to make some decisions against the criteria above. I have made an initial start. But, before coming up with a proposed set of 25 organizations, for your review and decision, I need some help with the long list from which these will be derived. I want to make sure we do not leave anyone out.
Can you please review the following:
1. Attached is the preliminary excel. From the round-robin and the homework I have tried to include all that were suggested. Please see the tab “Compiled data” - Column B. This is the full list according to the notes. Please do review and let me know if I have left any organizations out of this list.
2. In that same column - “Compiled data - Column B” you will see some are in red. These are suggestions from you on which I could not find much information. It may be that the names were notes incorrectly. Could I please ask you to review these and send me any corrected names, links and/or other further information. Thanks
3. The first tab is the “Overview data” summarising where we stand with the data as presently entered. That overview will of course change as we receive and incorporate the new data in 2 above into the excel.
4. You will that there is no compiled data for Development issue. It was just too complicated. We would have had an even more complex excel. In tab “Compiled data” please see column U. I have entered in that column some basic words associated with the development focus of each of these organizations. Please do suggest edits and changes. For the development issue balance we will need to do a more considered check to make sure we are covering the full tapestry of development.
5. In the lists developed through the round-robin and the homework there were some general suggestions that we could not categories. These included, for example: Ministries; Francophone; Lusophone; Arabic; Gender Orgs; Advocacy Orgs; Outside of Health; More global representation; and, European bilaterals. If you have specific organizations to suggest for each of these today is the time to send them!
6. In the “Compiled data” tab please look at column V. You will see some that have a red background and white question mark. Those question marks relate to columns W to AG - “The shared strategy 'cousins' that make up our "famiiy" (choosing predominant strategies)”. The question marks are there because I am not aware which of those options apply to organizations with the ? in Column V. If you have any information on this please let me know asap.
7. Please note that the numbers in the “Overview data” tab do not all add up because of the info missing for the orgs in red in the compiled data table (see 2 above)
Thanks - if you can respond today that would be excellent. Will give me a chance to have a fuller set of insights and knowledge upon which to make the “initial 25” proposal for your review and decision.
Best - Warren
Papers for Alliance call - Tuesday December 12th - 10Am EST
Best wishes - attached (when you log in) are the papers for the Alliance call at 10am EST on Tuesday December 12th, 2017.
1. As we are getting near the end of this development process I have attempted to draw everything decided and proposed (eg the orgs to invite into the Alliance) into one short consolidated document (6 pages plus some Appendixes with more detail on the plans) so that we can all see the full outline of what is being developed. As Twain or Wilde (depends which side of the pond you are!) inferred in their famous quote it takes a lot longer to write a short letter. We have had a substantive process and I wanted to see if I could write the short(ish) note that outlines the full Alliance process.
2. The paper attached also includes a link to the suggested survey on the name issues as we discussed in Baltimore.
3. I have also taken the long list of possible Alliance participating organisations and reduced it to 30 proposed organisatons.
4. Sadly ran out of time for the Secretariat TOR and the quick budget but will do soon.
5. As the agenda for the call suggest that we just run through the paper attached with specific attention to (a) the name survey (b) the initial organisations to be invited to form the Alliance and (c) the invitation process.
Thanks - Warren
Warren - apologies - looks
Warren - apologies - looks like I won't be able to attend today after all.
I was there last week and Pallavi updated me on her participation at Baltimore as well.
For ICA 's role - as I noted last week on the phone I'm willing to start organizing a sub-committee to engage in research and evidence collection methodologies and so on through the Global Communication and Social change division for starters. After and if I get the go-ahead from the team I will start to recruit a sub group to work with me.
All the rest looks fine to me so far - I won't be at Nusa - but will work on participating through distance tech if there is that option. I'm assuming other meeting dates and times will be decided on by and by so I'm expecting to be able to attend some of those.
thanks!
