Summit: Is What Works? the question
Thanks Warren.
Still thinking if the what works question is really the main question. It's not about evidence as both of us have known for decades....but institutional power, dominant knowledge, flows of money...how do we tackle these issues is the question... At times, I think that the "evidence" Q is either a red herring or proxy for bigger and more difficult issues.

What Works?
I am looking forward to the summit. It will be exciting to share the results of a pilot test, in east central Uganda, of a job aid “Wheel of practices for better living ”, where 19 practices are organized and displayed in the home. As the family moves through the “first 1,000 days”, community health workers (CHWs) make periodic home visits to promote uptake of key practices and opportune care seeking. The tool is to help both the CHW and the family to discuss what works and what needs improvement.
SBCC tackling vector-borne diseases?
Chagas is a neglected tropical disease affecting around 6 million people in Latin America, causing approximately 14000 deaths annually. Caused by a parasite (Trypanosoma cruzi), the main form of transmission is by an insect known as the kissing bug. The presence of this insect in the houses has been associated to environmental and socio-economic conditions, but also to people practices and attitudes. In the #SBCCsummit2018 we will be sharing our experience to tackle this disease through a participatory approach to manage risk factors associated with the infestation of the houses, in a municipality in the eastern part of #Guatemala. Is anyone else working with vector-borne diseases? I am looking forward to learn from and to share with all the SBCC experts and practitioners worldwide!!
List of Accepted Abstracts Available Online
If you are interested in finding out more on what to expect at the upcoming SBCC Summit, click here for a link to the list of accepted abstracts. The abstract submission process was highly competitive and the selection process not an easy one with so many geographic regions, communication approaches, and development issues to cover.
The full Summit programme should be made available at the end of this month. Stay tuned!

What works?
Behavioral economics has helped me to have more insight into the working minds of youth. Sometime back, I had a discussion with some youth and the topic was condom use. Some of the reasons youth put forward for not using condoms baffled me. I was intrigued. Some of the reasons put forward were 1, they hear they are not 100% effective and 2. They can break when one pours red pepper solution on to condoms.
Even in family planning, some women and men were worried that some of the methods were not 100% effective…. So why use them?
Behavioural economics has shed some light, especially this principle;
“People are bad at computation when making decisions: they put undue weight on recent events and too little on far-off ones; they cannot calculate probabilities well and worry too much about unlikely events; and they are strongly influenced by how the problem/information is presented to them”
What kind of “nurge” would you give this kind of target audience?
Participación en SBCC Summt
Agradecida por la oportunidad de participar en International SBCC Summit compartiendo y adquiriendo nuevos conocimientos, felicitaciones por organizar este magno evento.
Oportunidades en SBCC Summit

Wish I could attend and meet Mr Sabido
Dear All,
I wish I could attend the summit, but it seems that I won't make it this time... Last one in Addis was so interesting!
Actually, I'd especially have loved to meet Mr. Sabido as we worked with PMC in DRC and we had wonderful behavior changes results thanks to a soap opera developed on Sabido's methodology! Here is a short film and a link
Enjoy the Summit lucky ones! Farellia
FINALLY REGISTERED, FINGERS & TOES CROSSED for everything else
Hello from Jamaica. I've held off registering until the 11th hour as I still wasnt sure what would happen as it relates to accommodation and travel. But I have stepped out in faith and registered. Now to see how the other aspects will pan out. whew! In the event there is anyone with leads on funding for conference attendance, Please please direct me to same. Also, in the event there is anyone who wishes to share accommodation expenses, kindly let me know.
A bit of background, I studied Social Marketing at the University level and have since implemented several Development and Behaviour Change initiatives in Jamaica and the region. At this time, I'm pivoting my efforts to focus on my 9 year old Blog www.jamaicanmommies.com which started as a hobby but will now become a tool for Behaviour Change interventions in the local space. I therefore look forward to learning more about all the new trends and best practices in SBCC and how I can apply them towards positive parenting and Values and Attitudes changes in the lives of my fellow Jamaicans.
Registration day was a blast.
